After receiving the Report of the Kelowna Catholic Schools Rejuvenation Project, St. Joseph’s Council passed a resolution to support a Sutherland Avenue solution … known now as “The St. Joseph Project”. Shortly thereafter, Bishop John Corriveau asked Fr. Pat Monette and Hal Spelliscy to assemble “The Bishop’s Task Force for St. Joe’s”, put conditions for success in place and move the Project forth:
Mr. Hal Spelliscy, CIM, FCSI
A Portfolio Manager and partner in a Kelowna based investment firm, Hal is the father of two St. Joe’s alumni and a longtime volunteer within the Diocese of Nelson. Hal’s involvement with the school project discussion reaches back to 2010. As Task Force Chair, Hal’s goal is to empower and equip Task Force members to complete St. Joseph’s renewal. Hal is a Lector and parishioner of St. Charles Garnier parish.
Mr. Mike Jacobs, P.Eng
A registered professional engineer, Mike Jacobs is President and CEO of Emil Anderson Construction and Dilworth Homes whose awarded work has ranged from custom residential projects, massive scale roadwork and legacy Olympic venues. Former Chair of the Kelowna Catholic School Council, Mike and his wife Kim attend St. Charles Garnier and are parents of two St. Joseph and Immaculata graduates. Mike’s oversight of the St. Joseph Project Building elements continues to be immense and invaluable.
Mr. Arnie Kouwenhoven
Everyone’s favourite baker, Arnie is President and General Manager of Nature’s Ovens Foods on Kelowna’s west side. An immense supporter of our school community, Arnie is current Chairman of St. Joseph’s Council and Past Chair / Finance Chair of the Kelowna Catholic School Council. Parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes, Arnie and wife Denise are parents to three St. Joe’s and Immaculata graduates … one of whom now teaches at the high school.
Mr. Jarrod Thalheimer
A graduate of both St. Joseph and Immaculata schools, Jarrod is a writer/producer specializing in fiction and non-fiction projects across numerous platforms. His background is small business, PR, the arts, film production, labour relations and contract negotiation. Jarrod and his wife Dawn have five children in our schools and all attend ICC Parish.
Mrs. Holly Routley
Since moving her family to Kelowna in 1996, Holly has been an active member of St. Charles Garnier parish, the Diocese of Nelson and our school communities. With a long history in large scale event planning, marketing, fundraising and volunteer engagement, Holly has consistently used her many skills in support of the faith.
A proud and active mother to six children, Holly’s background as a Registered Nurse underscores her commitment to aiding those in need. As Development Coordinator, Holly oversees the day to day responsibility of steering completion of the St. Joseph Project’s capital campaign while establishing development as a perpetual priority within our Diocese and community.
Mr. Robert Plaxton
Principal, Immaculata Catholic Regional High School
Rob and his wife Teresa attend ICC parish and enjoy deep roots in our community. Four of their seven children attend our schools today. Rob is an active and steady supporter of all efforts to serve local Catholic education.
Mr. Art Therrien
Art’s career in Catholic education began in 1987 as a teacher on Vancouver Island. After progressing through the Island Catholic Schools system, Art moved to Kelowna and took over the reigns as our Superintendent in 2014. Art attends St. Charles Garnier Parish and is a member of the Knights of Columbus (Council #9845) as well as the Kelowna Morningside Rotary Club. With his wife Marilyn, Art has three grown children. We are graced to have Art’s patient and supportive leadership behind the St. Joseph Project.
Raised attending Catholic elementary and high schools, Lynn became a teacher with the Edmonton Catholic School Board in 1980, joined St. Joseph in 1996 and became our principal in 2012. Lynn and her husband Eric have two grown children and attend St. Pius parish where Lynn is a Lector, Eucharistic Minister and CWL member.
