It truly was a celebration. Wednesday May 25th saw the official ground-breaking for the new St. Joseph Elementary school in downtown
With the sun high in the sky local MLA Norm Letnick (a product of Catholic education himself) led the proceedings. In front of 350 students, teachers, guests and more official greetings were brought from the City of Kelowna by Mayor Colin Basran while our own Bishop John blessed the project. St. Joseph Principal Lynn Fleck highlighted the long journey to the day at hand while grade 5 student Emma Uhrich brought smiles to the crowd with her down to earth excitement of finally getting “better air conditioning and toilets that will flush properly.” Also in attendance were KofC honour guard, CWL reps, our SJS PSG, local MP Dan Albas, councillors Luke Stack and Tracy Gray along with representatives from the Sisters of Charity in Halifax, NS – home to the founding order of nuns that first built St. Joseph School in Kelowna.
